Man condemned to death by stoning by a Shariah Court for homosexuality
On Friday, 10th of May 2024, In Ningi headquarters of Ningi LGA of Bauchi state, a Sharia Court has sentenced a middle-aged man to death by stoning for the crime of homosexuality.
The ruling was pronounced by Sharia Judge Abdullahi Aliyu Doya during a court session held on Friday, the 10th of May 2024.
Judge Doya while shedding light on the court proceedings, revealed that the case has been under examination since the 2nd of May 2024, with the final arguments heard on the 9th of May 2024, leading up to the pronouncement of the judgment.
However, the verdict was delivered based on the compelling evidence and the admission of guilt by the accused, Abdullahi Sani, who hails from Unguwar Makara, Huta in Ningi.
In a solemn declaration, the Sharia Judge reiterated that the sentence conformed to the stipulations outlined in sections 131, 132, and 133 of the Bauchi State administration of criminal justice, 2001.
This decision marks yet another instance of the strict application of Sharia law in the region, following a similar ruling by Sharia Judge Munka’ilu Sabo-Ningi in 2022, where three individuals were also sentenced to death by stoning for the same offense.
