Manchester United stun Manchester City 2-1 to win FA Cup
In a thrilling FA Cup final, Manchester United defied the odds to secure a 2-1 victory over Manchester City at Wembley on Saturday, delivering a much-needed triumph for embattled manager Erik ten Hag.
Ten Hag’s future at United had been in serious doubt following a turbulent season, with reports suggesting his dismissal was imminent regardless of the outcome.
However, the Dutchman’s tactical acumen was on full display as he masterminded an upset that thwarted City’s quest for a second consecutive Premier League and FA Cup double.
United, the underdogs going into the match, took control in the first half with goals from teenagers Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

The win also revived memories of Sir Alex Ferguson’s pivotal 1990 FA Cup triumph, which was a turning point in his legendary career at Old Trafford.
United shareholders Jim Ratcliffe and co-owners Joel and Avie Glazer watched from the stands, aware of the managerial speculation linking the club with high-profile names like Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, and Gareth Southgate.
Despite the victory, Ratcliffe faces a critical decision regarding Ten Hag’s future.
Ten Hag has pointed to a lengthy injury list as a key factor in United’s struggles this season, but he can also highlight his two trophies in three cup final appearances as evidence of his capabilities.
He ended United’s six-year trophy drought with last year’s League Cup and has now added the FA Cup to his achievements.
United’s win also ensures their qualification for the Europa League, avoiding the ignominy of missing out on European competition for the first time since 2014-15.
Meanwhile, City, who recently secured their fourth consecutive Premier League title, were left to reflect on a rare domestic defeat, their first in 171 days.
