Meet Nigeria’s Dr. Rose-Margaret Ekeng-Itua, 1st black woman with Ph.D in Cybernetics

In a groundbreaking achievement, Professor Rose-Margaret Ekeng-Itua has emerged as the world’s first black woman to attain a doctorate degree (Ph.D) in Cybernetics. Cybernetics, the scientific study of information communication in machines compared to the brain and nervous system, has found its trailblazer in Ekeng-Itua.

A trailblazer in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, Ekeng-Itua’s pioneering spirit has paved the way for African youth, particularly girls, to excel in these fields.

Her journey to this historic milestone began in Nigeria, where her fascination with technology blossomed amidst cultural norms discouraging girls from scientific pursuits.
