Meet Nigeria’s Dr. Rose-Margaret Ekeng-Itua, 1st black woman with Ph.D in Cybernetics
In a groundbreaking achievement, Professor Rose-Margaret Ekeng-Itua has emerged as the world’s first black woman to attain a doctorate degree (Ph.D) in Cybernetics. Cybernetics, the scientific study of information communication in machines compared to the brain and nervous system, has found its trailblazer in Ekeng-Itua.
A trailblazer in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, Ekeng-Itua’s pioneering spirit has paved the way for African youth, particularly girls, to excel in these fields.

Undeterred by challenges and armed with ambition, Ekeng-Itua pursued her academic journey abroad, obtaining bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering before etching her name in history with a Ph.D in Cybernetics from the University of Reading, UK.
