ONSA, police, rescue Zamfara lawmaker’s daughters after 17 months in captivity
Story from Usman UMAR
The National Security Adviser’s office, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, successfully rescued two daughters of a Zamfara State House of Assembly member,
Aminu Ardo, who had been held captive by their abductors for 17 months.
The children, Maryam, aged 10, and Nana Asma’u, aged 8, were handed over to their father at the Force Headquarters in Abuja,
Deputy Force Public Relations Officer CSP Isuku Victor mentioned that their rescue was made possible through the collaborative efforts of security agencies under the coordination of National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
The police revealed that the children, along with their mother and other siblings, were kidnapped, but fortunately, the mother and some of the children managed to escape, leaving Maryam and Nana in captivity.
The tragic event occurred in November 2022 in Jangebe village, Zamfara State, where armed bandits abducted the family.
It was noted that the mother gave birth during captivity under harsh conditions, but unfortunately, the newborn did not survive. After months of enduring captivity, the mother and some children managed to escape, leaving behind Maryam and Nana.
The police emphasized the government’s commitment to security reform under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to enhance the country’s security architecture.
They highlighted the use of advanced intelligence and operational tactics that led to the successful rescue operation.
CSP Victor said that despite the challenges in combating kidnapping and violent crimes, the Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of IGP Kayode Egbetokun, remains determined to tackcrimes head-on.
The security operatives expressed sympathy for the affected families and vowed to increase efforts in dismantling criminal networks and ensuring justice was served.
