Out of 24 victims, 15 confirmed dead in Kano mosque fire attack

The Police Command in Kano State has confirmed the fatalities resulting from the mosque assault in Gadan village in Gezawa Local Government Area.

A vindictive individual doused the mosque with petrol, locked the doors, and set it ablaze, trapping worshippers inside.

Commissioner of Police, Mr Usaini Gumel, stated that out of the 24 victims, 15 have succumbed to their injuries.

Initially, it was reported that only one person had died, but the death toll increased as more victims passed away while receiving treatment at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.

The incident occurred during dawn prayer at a mosque in Gadan village, resulting in injuries to 24 worshippers. The injured are currently being treated at the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital.

The suspect, Shafi’u Abubakar, aged 38, is in police custody, with the motive believed to be a family dispute over inheritance.

The police are conducting an ongoing investigation into the attack.
