Police neutralise 3 kidnappers in Sankera axis clash

The Benue State Police Command successfully neutralised three notorious kidnappers in a gun duel in the Sankera axis, which includes Katsina-Ala, Ukum, and Logo local government areas, recovering arms and ammunition in the process.

According to Catherine Anene, the command’s spokesperson, the Operation Zenda JTF officers carried out the operation on the 29th of May, 2024, at around 6 am.

They raided a kidnappers’ hideout where the gang, headed by Tersue Dada, also known as “Causer,” engaged in a fierce gun battle with the police but were ultimately overpowered by the superior firepower of the officers.

In the exchange, three suspects sustained gunshot wounds and later succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. Additionally, one suspect, Terver Tavershima from Ukum LGA, was apprehended.

Two kidnapped victims, who had been held for about a week in Ukum LGA, were safely rescued by the police. The victims revealed that a ransom of N23 million was demanded for their release.

CP Hassan Yabanet, leading the charge, has intensified operations in the Sankera axis to restore safety for farmers and combat banditry.

Anene emphasised the importance of collaboration from the community to help the police rid the area of criminal elements.
