Tragedy as train crushes family of six

Story from Hamzat Ibrahim ABAGA

In Orhuwhorun, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, a harrowing incident unfolded as family of six, comprising a man, his wife, and their four children, met with a fatal accident involving a passenger train.

The unfortunate event happened at the train terminal in Odijpata on Friday. The family had parked their vehicle near the tracks, patiently awaiting the train to pass. However, tragedy struck when the train unexpectedly collided with their vehicle, hurling it into a nearby ditch.

The impact left the family members severely injured. They were promptly rushed to a hospital. Their current condition remains undisclosed, shrouded in uncertainty.

Eyewitnesses recounted the horror as the train driver failed to halt post-collision. Thankfully, bystanders intervened, rescuing the family and swiftly ferrying them to medical aid.

Local sources revealed the extent of the devastation, noting irreparable damage to the vehicle, with its windscreen shattered and belongings scattered across the road.

Adding to the grim situation, reports surfaced alleging the non-operational status of the Odijpata train terminal, with absenteeism among workers responsible for barricading the road.

However, the Delta State Police Command said no formal report had been lodged at the Ovwain police station, which holds jurisdiction over the area.

Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe reiterated the absence of any filed report, offering no further insights or clarifications.
