Yobe edges closer to overcoming educational challenges – Shettima

The Acting Chairman of the Yobe State Universal Basic Education Board, Malam Isa Shettima, has expressed optimism that the challenges facing the educational sector in the state are nearing an end.
This comes on the heels of recent impressive performances by Yobe State indigenes in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
In an interview with Neptune Prime on Tuesday, Shettima revealed pride in the students’ achievements, stating, “I am fully aware of the challenges facing the educational sector, and this is why we are working tirelessly to provide all necessary learning materials for our students.”
He attributed the students’ success to the efforts of the Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, to revamp the educational sector.
Shettima highlighted that the Yobe State Universal Basic Education Board (YSUBEB) has distributed numerous learning materials to students over the past five months, which has significantly contributed to their excellence in the JAMB examinations.
Neptune Prime noted that the impressive UTME results include scores of 346, 339, 338, 335, 330, 329, 328, and 324, an unprecedented feat.
According to Shettima, “With the consistent efforts of the Yobe State Government and the dedication of our students and teachers, I am confident that the educational sector in Yobe is on the verge of becoming one of the best in the country. We are committed to sustaining this momentum and creating a world-class educational system that will produce future leaders and change-makers.”
Shettima also commended the former Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Muhammad Sani Idriss, for his relentless efforts in revitalizing the education sector.
He noted that the success in the exams can be attributed to the former commissioner’s outstanding work, who resigned to lead the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children. Shettima urged Governor Buni to honour the former commissioner in recognition of his significant contributions to the Yobe State education sector.
It can be recalled that Governor Buni declared a state of emergency on education at the primary and secondary school levels in 2019, shortly after assuming office.
This declaration has led to concerted efforts to address the challenges facing the educational sector in Yobe State.
