Yobe Police arrest 98 suspected kidnappers, robbers

The Yobe State Police Command has made significant strides in combating crime in the area, as they successfully arrested 98 suspected kidnappers, robbers, and murderers in Yauru, Nguru Local Government.

Among the items recovered were Ak-47 rifles and 26 rounds of 7.6mm ammunition.

Commissioner of Police, Mr Garba Ahmed, said: “The command has been strategising to make life safe. Between January and April, the command arrested 12 suspected kidnappers, 31 suspected armed robbers and recorded 55 murder cases.

“Operatives of Jakusko Division, Police Head- quarters, apprehended one Manu and recovered AK-47 rifles with 26 rounds of live ammunition of 7.62mm while other gang members escaped with bullets. We raided the criminals’ hideouts in Yauru.

“The syndicate operated between Nguru Jakusco and some parts of Nangere LG.

The Police Response Unit (PRU) intercepted and arrested three suspects who specialised in vandalising electricity distribution transformer “The police arrested four suspected armed robbers and kidnappers operating in villages and towns in Nguru LG. Also, operatives in Gujba arrested two suspects for kidnapping. Their victims were fed with some harmful drugs, which they later killed the victims and their corpses buried in a shallow grave.

“Operatives arrested one Sani, who is responsible for the recent robbery and phones snatching at the Jerusalem area of Damaturu. We have raided their hideouts. The command remains resolute as we intensify commitment toward ensuring security and safety of citizenry.”
