Yobe State Student’s remarkable UTME performance highlights educational progress amid national challenges

A student identified as Fatima Saleh Alkali an indigene of Yobe state, scored 336 in the just concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). It is yet another remarkable academic performance from the core North.
Fatima Saleh Alkali scored 68 in English language, 93 in mathematics, 87 in physics, and 88 in chemistry, surprising the whole nation. Fatima’s performance is highly commendable and promising.
Following the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), it was reported that 77% failure was recorded with 1,402,490 candidates out of 1,842,464 failing to score 200 out of 400 marks.
Her success is however attributed to her hard work and the Yobe state government’s intervention in the education sector by declaring a state of emergency on education.
Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, assuming office in 2019, while delivering his inaugural speech at the Banquet Hall of the Government House Damaturu, declared a state of emergency on education at the primary and secondary school levels respectively.

However, Fatima’s outstanding performance is a show of her resilience, commitment, and hard work. A young genius driven by her passion to excel and actualise her dreams in the future.
Amid massive failure and low-quality education, Fatima took charge of her fate, and took a path to stand out amongst her mates, marking her attendance in the diary of excellence.
Her future must not be bleak as the burden of her excellence lies on the shoulder of the government to ensure she gets the best quality of education and in her decision to settle for excellence.
