103 Nigerians deported from Turkey amid allegations of unfair treatment

A total of 103 Nigerians arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Friday, June 28, 2024, following their deportation from the Republic of Turkey.

They disembarked from a Southwind Airlines flight with registration number TC-GRB, landing at approximately 6:45 pm local time.

Upon their arrival, the deportees were met by officials from various Nigerian government agencies including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS), and military personnel.

It remains unclear what infractions led to their deportation from Turkey, but the deportees expressed dissatisfaction with their treatment in Turkey, alleging unfair detention for over 11 months before being repatriated.

They voiced grievances over their detention conditions and called on the Nigerian government to intervene and assist in reclaiming their seized possessions.
