Millwall goalkeeper, Matija Sarkic, dies at 26
Montenegro and Millwall goalkeeper Matija Sarkic has died suddenly at the age of 26, his club and national football association announced on Saturday. Sarkic, who was born in Grimsby, played nine times for Montenegro and made 33 appearances for Millwall since joining the club in August 2023.
The Montenegro Football Association described Sarkic as a “beloved member of the ‘Brave Falcons’, an eternally smiling guy” and said he died suddenly early Saturday morning.
His club, Millwall Football Club, said they were “completely devastated” by the news and sent their love and condolences to Sarkic’s family and friends.

Sarkic’s football career included loan spells at several clubs in England and Scotland before joining Millwall. His twin brother, Oliver, is a midfielder with Montenegrin champions Decic Tuzi.
The football world is mourning the loss of a talented young player who left a mark on the sport.
