Two individuals were rescued from a collapsed building at Close 10, Drive 5, Second Gate, Prince and Princess Estate in Gudu District, Abuja.

The incident occurred on Saturday, prompting an immediate response from the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD).

Nkechi Isa, Head of Public Affairs at FEMD, disclosed that the Acting Director General, Mrs. Florence Wenegieme, confirmed all workers evacuated the building upon noticing signs of imminent collapse.

Unfortunately, two persons in a detached bungalow behind the building became trapped by the rubble.

The FEMD search and rescue team successfully extricated the trapped occupants by cutting through window protectors.

Mrs. Wenegieme emphasized the importance of adhering to building codes, conducting integrity tests on existing structures before renovations, and employing professionals.

She also highlighted the need for providing protective gear for workers and ensuring insurance coverage for both buildings and onsite workers.
