We Are Not Preparing For Olympics: Shettima defends Tinubu’s health amid speculations

Vice President Kashim Shettima has dismissed concerns about President Bola Tinubu’s health, emphasizing that leadership is about ideas, not physical prowess.

The Vice President made these remarks during a town hall meeting by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) at the State House in Abuja.

The speculations arose after President Tinubu stumbled during the Democracy Day celebrations, sparking debates about his fitness to lead.

However, Shettima was quick to refute these claims, stating, “We are not preparing for the Olympics, but an institution that builds on the superiority of ideas.”

He further elaborated that the essence of true leadership lies in the ability to generate and implement robust ideas to solve national issues.

“The hallmark of true leadership is not the ability to lift a bag of cement, but the capacity to come up with robust ideas to solve a nation’s problems,” Shettima asserted, urging Nigerians to support Tinubu’s administration.

Amid rising inflation, which hit 33.69 percent in May 2024, Shettima acknowledged the economic difficulties but stressed that these challenges are not unique to Nigeria.

He expressed confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and vision to navigate the country through these turbulent times. “Yes, our economy is going through turbulence, but is it confined to Nigeria alone?” he asked. “We have never had it so good in terms of leadership. The President means well for the nation and most importantly, is imbued with the skill set to drive change and progress.”

Shettima called on Nigerians to rally around President Tinubu, highlighting his competency and commitment to the nation’s progress. “Leadership is about competence,” he concluded. “The President we have now is a man of ideas who is robustly imbued with the capacity.”

The Vice President’s defense of Tinubu comes amidst ongoing public scrutiny and economic challenges, underscoring the administration’s focus on innovative solutions over physical demonstrations of strength.
