Abducted Nigerian Army Captain disarms kidnap gang member, rescues self, others in Kogi

A Nigerian Army Captain, identified as Captain J.O. Abalaka (N/15198), has been rescued after displaying remarkable courage and disarming a member of the kidnap gang that abducted him in Kogi State.

Reports reveal that Abalaka was kidnapped last week while travelling along the Ekpoma/Okene/Lokoja Road.

The incident took place while he was en route to report to his new unit at the operational headquarters of the Maiduguri Command in Borno State, coming from the 29 Battalion in Port Harcourt.

While driving his Toyota Corolla with registration number LSR 22 AJ, he was intercepted and abducted by armed gunmen, alongside other travellers.

In a display of extraordinary bravery, the Army captain bravely fought back, disarming one of the kidnappers wielding an AK-47.

He then engaged the remaining members of the gang, successfully freeing himself, his dog, and the other kidnapped victims.

During the operation, Captain Abalaka also managed to recover a locally fabricated Barretta pistol, one magazine, and 5× 9mm ammunition.

A military signal conveyed the details of the rescue mission, stating: “At about 301530HRS, Capt JO Abalaka (N/15198), while on pass from 29 BN Port Harcourt to report to his new unit in MCCC Theater Comd Maiduguri, was kidnapped by unknown gunmen along the Ekpoma-Okene-Lokoja road while driving his Toyota Corolla car reg no LSR 22 AJ, along with his dog. A/N officer was able to disarm one of the gunmen and engaged the kidnappers, successfully extricating himself, his dog, and other kidnapped victims.”
