ACF lauds FG’s commitment to complete AKK Gas Pipeline by March 2025

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has expressed its appreciation for the renewed commitment of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government to complete the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline by early 2025.

In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the forum, Professor Muhammad Tukur Baba, ACF highlighted the significance of this development.

The statement noted that the heartwarming news was confirmed during a visit by a high-powered delegation of the Federal Government to the project site in Kaduna on Friday, June 21, 2024.

The delegation included Mr. Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy; Alhaji Mohammed Malagi, Minister of Information and National Orientation; Mr. Ekperikpe Ekpo, Minister of State for Petroleum (Gas); and Mallam Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). Senator Uba Sani, the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, was represented by his Deputy, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, during the visit.

ACF agreed with Mr. Edun’s observation that the AKK Gas Pipeline is critical to Nigeria’s industrialisation efforts and will significantly benefit the economy. The forum recalled that during their leadership’s visit to President Tinubu on May 30, 2024, they had emphasized the importance of completing the AKK Gas Pipeline, along with other projects such as the Mambila Hydroelectric Dam, Sokoto-Badagri Highway, dredging of Rivers Benue and Niger, the Great Green Wall, and ongoing railway and highway projects.

The ACF reiterated its call for attention to these projects, stating that their completion would greatly revitalize the economy of the Northern states and Nigeria as a whole.

Convinced of the economic benefits of the gas pipeline project, the ACF also called for its extension to other states. They suggested that extending the line from Zaria to Katsina and Zamfara states would not be too costly and could revive industries in Funtua, Katsina, and Gusau, as well as establish new ones.

In conclusion, the ACF commended President Tinubu and expressed optimism about the transformational potential of the AKK Gas Pipeline project.
