After entering blood covenant, man kills 55-year-old wife for alleged infidelity

A married man identified as Matthew James has murdered his 55-year-old wife, Etim Mary, after suspecting her of being unfaithful.
The unfortunate incident happened at the Idekan Farm Settlement in the Ijebu-Ode area of Ogun State.
Several community and police sources reported that the suspect, now in police custody, committed the crime after suspecting his late wife of having an affair with another man in the community.
An observer, who chose to remain anonymous due to the sensitivity of the situation, revealed that the police from the Ijebu-Igbo Division had apprehended the suspect after the crime.
The witness also shared that the suspect claimed he and the deceased woman had a “blood covenant” not to betray each other.
“They had a blood pact that they would not abandon each other. He suspected his wife of having an affair. The woman was previously married before meeting James.
“He wed her when she was already older and had children from a previous marriage before James married her.
“James claimed that they both vowed to never leave each other for any reason. He returned one morning with a machete and killed the woman. He did not flee after the act. He just stood next to her,” the source disclosed.
The spokesperson for the state police command, Omolola Odutola, stated that the wife was declared dead by the attending doctor after being rushed to the hospital by other residents.
“She was found lying in a pool of blood in front of the house around 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. She had severe cuts on her forehead, shoulders, and other parts of her body. The husband was found with the bloodied machete believed to have been used in the crime.
The body was taken to a general hospital in Ijebu-Igbo, where she was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.
“Her body has been placed in the Alayangbe Private Mortuary in Oke-Agbo, Ijebu-Igbo, for further examination.
“We will transfer the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta once the initial investigation is completed,” police said.
