APC chieftain, Eze Eze, cautions ex-Rivers LG chairmen against worsening political rift

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has advised the former 23 Local Government Council Chairmen in Rivers State, whose tenure ended on Monday, June 17, 2024, to refrain from being manipulated to prolong the political turmoil in the state.

He cautioned them against using any illegitimate excuses to extend their term past the deadline.

Chief Eze revealed that there are clandestine plans to exploit the former council chairmen to worsen the crisis stemming from the dispute involving the 27 ex-Rivers lawmakers.

These plans were reportedly finalised over the weekend, with each chairman assigned a role to play starting from June 18, a day after their official exit, in order to escalate tensions and disrupt the state’s governance under Governor Sir Siminialayi Fubara.

The APC Chief highlighted instances of unrest in various local government areas, where angry youths have barricaded council secretariats to prevent the former chairmen and their supporters from causing trouble.

He emphasized that the state needs to smoothly transition to new leadership to avoid any administrative gaps following the expiration of the former officials’ terms.

Eze also raised concerns about reports of looting of council properties, such as vehicles, electronics, and furniture, aimed at hindering the incoming interim management team.

He called on the people of Emohua Local Government Area to reject any involvement in creating further chaos.

He implored the outgoing chairmen to peacefully return home and accept the transient nature of power, to prevent tarnishing their reputations and undermining their legacies for personal gain.
