Corruption Allegations: El-Rufai drags Kaduna Assembly to court

Story from Idris UMAR, Zaria

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has taken a significant step by initiating a fundamental rights lawsuit against the Kaduna State House of Assembly at the Federal High Court in Kaduna.

This legal action from El-Rufai comes swiftly after the Assembly’s report that accused his administration of misappropriating ₦432 billion and leaving the state burdened with substantial debt liabilities.

Represented by his lawyer, the distinguished Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Abdulhakeem Mustapha, El-Rufai argues that the findings in the report are invalid as he was not granted a fair opportunity to address the allegations against him.

In a report submitted in June by the Assembly’s ad hoc committee, it was asserted that El-Rufai’s administration had mishandled loans and financial matters, recommending an inquiry, legal action, and the suspension of the Commissioner of Finance.

El-Rufai’s spokesperson, Muyiwa Adekeye, swiftly dismissed the allegations as “scandalous” and maintained the unwavering integrity of El-Rufai’s government in the face of these claims.
