Court sentences 3 armed robbers to death by hanging
An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, has sentenced three individuals to death by hanging for the crimes of armed robbery and collusion.
The individuals found guilty by the court presided over by Justice John Adeyeye are Akingbade David, Michael Mayowa, and Ibrahim Jimoh Mukaila.
The convicted individuals committed the crimes on March 1, 2019, at NTA Road in Ado-Ekiti, where they robbed Gbenga Ajayi of his Toyota Corolla car at gunpoint.
They were apprehended, charged to court, and accused of Conspiracy and Armed Robbery offenses, which are in violation of Section 6(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap.R11, Vol.14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
An Assistant Chief Legal Officer, O. F. Ajumobi, who prosecuted the case for Ekiti State, presented two witnesses and submitted eleven pieces of evidence to support the case.
The trio of Akin Abon, lyanu Olumuagun, and Adeyinka Opaleke, who represented the convicted individuals, provided testimony in their defense without calling any additional witnesses.
In his ruling, Justice Adeyeye determined that the prosecution had established all the elements of the offenses against the defendants beyond a reasonable doubt.
He thereafter convicted all the defendants and sentenced them to death by hanging for both crimes.
