A recent study conducted  by Apuestas-Deportivas.es sheds light on some fascinating trends among the players who have graced the UEFA European Championship (EUROs) since its inception in 1960.

This comprehensive analysis of over 3,000 players offers insights into common traits such as names, birthdates, and birthplaces.

Names and Birthdays: Key Trends

The study found that “David” is the most common name among EURO players, with 36 individuals bearing this name. “Jan” follows closely with 34 players. Additionally, names starting with the letter “M” are the most prevalent, with 363 players, followed by “J” with 337.

January emerges as the most common birth month for EURO players, with 337 players born in this month. February comes in second with 332 players. Furthermore, Thursday is the most common day of birth, with 546 players born on this day, followed by Wednesday with 533.

Star Signs and Birthplaces

Astrological insights from the study reveal that Pisces is the most common star sign among EURO players, encompassing 333 individuals. Aquarius follows with 324 players.

Moscow stands out as the city that has produced the most EURO players, with 52 players hailing from the Russian capital. Copenhagen and London follow, with 41 and 38 players, respectively.

Profiles of EURO Winners

When focusing on EURO winners, “Bernard” and “Jan” are the most common names, each represented by four winners. The initial “J” also leads among winners’ first names, with 37 players, followed by “A” with 32.

October and March are tied as the most common birth months among EURO winners, each with 31 players. Thursday is again the most common birth day among winners, with 52. Capricorn is the most prevalent star sign among EURO winners, representing 35 players, followed by Leo with 33.

The average age of a EURO squad player is 26.03 years, while the average height is 182.3 cm. Among winners, the average age is 26.659 years, and the average height is 180.75 cm.

Methodology

This analysis spans data from the 17 editions of the UEFA European Championship from 1960 to 2024, including over 4,600 player entries and more than 3,400 individual players. Players who participated in multiple tournaments were counted only once to ensure accuracy.

In instances where data was missing (less than 5%), those players were omitted from the respective category.
