FCT residents batter 23-year-old scavenger for stealing pot of rice

A 23-year-old scavenger known as Nura reportedly faced a mob assault for stealing a pot of rice in Kango community, Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

A resident of Kango, Ayuba Iliya ,said the incident occurred on Tuesday at approximately 11:23 AM.

Neptune prime gathered that Nura purportedly took advantage of a moment when Margaret, a woman in the neighbourhood, left her pot of rice unattended on fire to fetch water from a nearby borehole.

Upon Margaret’s return, she found her pot missing from the fire, and raised an alarm.

Iliya explained that a vigilant neighbour witnessed Nura parking his truck, entering Margaret’s compound, and taking the pot of rice.

The neighbour alerted others, leading to a confrontation where Nura was apprehended and beaten by the mob.

The situation escalated until other residents and vigilantes intervened, rescuing Nura from further harm.

Complaints from locals about missing cooking utensils allegedly involving scavengers have been ongoing.

In a separate incident at Unguwar Sabon-Tasha, Abaji, suspected scavengers stole six large cooking pots and spoons not long ago.

SP Adeh Josephine, spokesperson of the FCT police command, is expected to soon issue a statement on the incident
