Governing council renames Bauchi varsity to Sa’adu Zungur University

The Governing Council of the Bauchi State University Gadau (BASUG), under the distinguished chairmanship of Professor Ango Abdullahi, has officially approved and implemented the decision to start using Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU) as the new name of the institution.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by Auwal Hassan, Public Relations Officer.
He said the decision to rename the university was reached by council members during its meeting held on Thursday, 7th May 2024 at Yuli Campus, signifying a milestone in the university’s rich history.
He said the bill for the renaming of the university was signed by His Excellency Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, Executive Governor of Bauchi and passed by the State House of Assembly.
Professor Abdullahi, the Pro Chancellor of the University expressed the Council’s unanimous decision to adopt the new name in honour of late Nigerian nationalist and politician, Sa’adu Zungur.
The council expressed its full support for the renaming of the institution, emphasizing the importance of honouring the memory of individuals who have played pivotal roles in shaping the history and identity of the nation.
Governor Mohammed’s initiative to rename the university after Sa’adu Zungur has been widely praised by various stakeholders, including faculty members, alumni, and the general public.
