Kano journalists lift ban on government coverage

The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Chapter, has lifted its ban on covering Kano State Government activities, with immediate effect.
Chairman of the Chapter, Aminu Ahmed Garko, in a statement, explained that the 14-day boycott was initiated to protest the government’s handling of issues affecting journalists and the profession.
According to the Chairman, the chapel realised that the boycott had unintended consequences, limiting their ability to inform the public and hold those in power accountable.
The NUJ Correspondent Chapel would resume reporting on government activities, ensuring the public is well-informed, while continuing to hold the government accountable for its actions, Mr Garko noted.
On June 10, 2024, the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), after an emergency meeting, boycotted all activities related to the Kano State Government over ill-treatment of its members.
