Kogi targets houses, hotels used by internet fraudsters for demolition

Story from Usman UMAR

The Kogi State Government has warned that it will tear down homes occupied by internet scammers, commonly known as Yahoo boys in the state.

The State Security Adviser, Rtd Commander Jerry Omodara, issued the threat during an episode of the “State of Kogi” radio programme on Radio Kogi in Lokoja.

Omodara emphasized the need for the public to provide information to help authorities arrest internet scammers in the state.

He mentioned that security forces will soon target hotels used by Yahoo boys for illegal activities, warning that severe consequences will be faced by those who harbor fraudsters.

The State Security Adviser advised landlords against renting their properties to Yahoo boys, stating that such buildings will also be destroyed.

He revealed that the government, in collaboration with security agencies, has identified properties constructed with proceeds from criminal activities, and those housing criminals will face demolition.

Omodara explained that security forces and local hunters have been instructed to apprehend or eliminate anyone carrying weapons in the forest.

He praised Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his efforts in addressing security challenges and called on companies and wealthy individuals to contribute to the State Security Trust Fund.

It was reported that the presence of internet scammers in Kogi State has been increasing, leading to the arrest of many suspects of cybercrime by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
