Meet Prof. Aisha Maikudi, youngest professor to become Ag. VC of UniAbuja

Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi has been appointed Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja (UniAbuja) until the University Council is inaugurated to appoint a permanent Vice-Chancellor.

The Senate of the University approved Professor Maikudi’s appointment following the conclusion of Professor AbdulRasheed Na’Allah’s term as the 6th vice chancellor of the institution on June 30, 2024.

Maikudi, a Professor of International Law, currently serves as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) of the University.

Born in Zaria, Kaduna State, on January 31, 1983, she successfully completed her West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

After completing her secondary education, she pursued her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) at the University of Reading and her Master of Laws (LLM) at the London School of Economics in the United Kingdom.

She also attended the Nigeria Law School, Abuja, for her legal training and the University of Abuja for her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Law.

In 2007, Aisha served in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at the Corporate Secretariat and Legal Division of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

She joined the University of Abuja as a Lecturer in 2008 and made history as the first female and youngest Head of the Department at the Faculty of Law in 2014, the first female and youngest Deputy Dean at the Faculty of Law in 2018, and the founding Director at the University of Abuja.

Reports indicate that she is the youngest Professor at the University of Abuja and in Nigeria, as well as the first female Professor of Law in the North West region and at the University of Abuja.

Her area of expertise is United Nations Law, and she has published extensively on the subject. Aisha introduced a Postgraduate course on United Nations Law and has supervised numerous undergraduate and postgraduate projects.

She has over 12 years of experience teaching Company Law and is well-versed in the subject. She has been an active participant in various conferences and training programs worldwide.

She is also a member of several professional organisations, including the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the Nigerian Law Teachers Association (NLTA), and the International Federation of Women Lawyers (IFWL).

Professor Aisha is married and blessed with children.
