NNL fines El-Kanemi Warriors of Borno N1m over attack on referee
Story from Usman UMAR
The Nigeria National League has imposed a penalty on El-Kanemi Warriors Football Club from Maiduguri for their misconduct during their first playoff match against Nasarawa United.
The league announced on Monday that the club will be fined One Million Naira.
The disciplinary action was taken after El-Kanemi Warriors’ supporters, including the head of their Supporters Club, disrupted the match by storming the pitch and attempting to attack the referee when a goal scored through a penalty was disallowed.
Security personnel had to intervene to prevent any physical altercation.
As a consequence, the club has been fined and the head of the Supporters Club has been banned from attending any Super Eight playoff matches.
The league has also advised El-Kanemi Warriors to educate their fans on appropriate behavior during games.
