Police in Gombe arrest councilor, 2 others for stealing community transformer
The Gombe State Police Command has apprehended the councillor representing Kumo East in Akko local government area of the state, Abdullahi Panda, and two others for allegedly stealing and selling a transformer belonging to the Majidadi community.
Presenting the suspects to journalists after their capture on Monday, the Gombe State Police Commissioner, Hayatu Usman, stated that the suspects were detained following a tip-off.
Usman mentioned that the transformer was vend to one Bello Ardo Kumo for N1.5 million naira, and further noted that police have retrieved the transformer and are currently probing the issue before pressing charges against the suspects.
One of the suspects, the village head, Muhammad Majidadi, disclosed that the transformer had been unused for ten years with some of its components already looted and taken.

He stated that the community opted to sell the transformer in order to construct an Islamic school and a clinic in the village.
Majidadi affirmed that he informed the councillor about the decision but Panda refuted any involvement in the transaction of the transformer and urged for the matter to be settled in court.
