The management of Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, has suspended four students for one academic session due to their involvement in the assault of a fellow student, Victor Tobin, a 300-level student from the Department of Sociology.
In a statement released on Saturday by the Acting Registrar, I.B. Harry, it was disclosed that the decision was made during a meeting held on Friday.
The suspended students, who are members of the Man O’ War campus security group, are Monsi Baridukaka Nwaaelibabari (Department of Mechanical Engineering), Victor Chibuike Daniel (Department of Animal Science), Ezems Ikechukwu Goodluck (Department of Electrical Engineering), and Wilson Jacob Ree-Ugani (Department of Marine Engineering).

The Acting Registrar called on the student population to live in peace and harmony and to comply with all university rules and regulations.

Hundreds of students staged a protest on Thursday in response to the alleged brutalization of their colleague by the Man O’ War officials.
The protestors, including female students, gathered at the Man O’ War office, demanding explanations for Tobin’s treatment and calling for the disbandment of the campus security outfit.
Eyewitnesses reported that the incident began when Tobin allegedly walked on the pavement near the Man O’ War office, which prompted an aggressive response from the personnel.
Despite Tobin’s inquiries about his offense, he was reportedly beaten, resulting in injuries under his right eye.
The incident sparked immediate protests, with demonstrators demanding swift action to address the alleged human rights abuses by the Man O’ War personnel.
When contacted, the Rivers State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that the university has not yet reported the matter to the police and is handling it internally.
The university management emphasized the importance of peace and adherence to regulations among students, stressing that such actions would not be tolerated.
