Stray bullet kills young man as police, club manager clash over prostitute

An unidentified police officer from the Nsukka Urban Police Division has allegedly killed a partygoer, simply identified as Amuche, along Echara Road in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday evening when a group of plainclothes police officers from the division went out for some leisure time at a relaxation centre in the area.

Witnesses said that trouble began when one of the officers attempted to dance with a woman, believed to be a prostitute, in front of a bar.

The situation escalated when the woman accused the officer of inappropriately touching her during the dance, leading to a heated argument and altercation.

She informed the centre’s management about the incident.

The manager confronted the officer, leading to a physical altercation. The manager then enlisted the help of other employees at the centre.

In response, the officer’s colleagues intervened, and one of them retrieved an AK-47 rifle from their vehicle to disperse the growing crowd.

Unfortunately, a stray bullet struck Amuche, who was playing snooker in a corner of the centre.

Amuche, who was trying to leave the scene, was hit by the bullet.

The officers subsequently took the manager into custody for allegedly assaulting their colleague.

The tragic event sparked protests in the area, with angry youths carrying Amuche’s body to the Nsukka Police Division.

The Enugu State Police Command spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe, is yet to issue a statement regarding the incident as of press time.
