Tinubu appoints Nkiruka Maduekwe as NCCC DG

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Nkiruka Maduekwe as the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) on an interim basis, pending confirmation by the NCCC supervisory council.

Ajuri Ngelale, the president’s Special Adviser on Media, announced that Maduekwe, 39, holds a bachelor’s degree in law, a master’s degree in environmental law & policy from the University of Dundee (UK), and a doctorate in law from the University of Hull (UK). She will co-chair the intergovernmental committee on the national carbon market activation plan

. Maduekwe has over 15 years of experience in climate policy and project implementation.

Additionally, Tinubu appointed Ibrahim Shelleng, 40, as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Climate Finance & Stakeholder Engagement, seconded to the NCCC Secretariat.

Olamide Fagbuji, 44, was named Senior Special Assistant on Climate Technology and Operations, also seconded to the NCCC secretariat, to oversee the digitalisation of procurement processes and procedural optimisation.

These appointments take immediate effect, with the president expecting the appointees to drive the nation’s green industrial development and climate action goals.
