World Record Holder in women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, has showcased her excellence by leading Team Nigeria to a gold medal victory in the 4x100m relay at the 2024 Africa Senior Athletics Championships in Douala, Cameroon.
Despite missing her 100m hurdle event due to illness, Amusan’s impressive anchor leg performance secured Nigeria’s fourth gold medal of the championships.
Starting off strong was Justina Eyakpobeya, smoothly passing the baton to Tima Godbless who maintained the lead. Olayinka Olajide carried the momentum and handed the baton to Amusan for a spectacular finish clocking in at 42.72 seconds.

Amusan’s participation in the relay was made possible by the advice of the Sports Ministry’s medical personnel after she fell ill. Despite the setback, her determination and skill shone through on the track.
In the men’s 4x100m relay, Nigeria claimed the silver medal, with Kanyinsola Ajayi, Ushoritse Itshekiri, Alaba Akintola, and Godson Brume putting up a commendable performance.
The quartet of Justina Eyakpobeyan, Tima Godbless, Olayinka Olajide, and Tobi Amusan captured the gold in the women’s 4x100m relay final, showcasing teamwork, talent, and resilience in their memorable victory.
