Tragedy Strikes: Police officer’s son drowns in Ogun river

The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation and search operation after the son of a police officer drowned in the Ogun River. Francis Danjuma, 32, was bathing in the river on June 12, 2024, when the incident occurred.

According to reports, Francis’ father, Deputy Superintendent of Police Danjuma Shaibu, who resides at the Alausa Police Barracks in Lagos State, reported the incident. Shaibu stated that his son left their home around 2:00 p.m. on June 12, 2024, to bathe in the nearby Ogun River, where he reportedly drowned.

Despite extensive efforts by family members and local divers to find the victim, Francis’ body is yet to be recovered.

The spokesperson for the state command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident and stated that police operatives at the Ojodu-Abiodun division have begun an investigation to unravel the circumstances behind the incident and to recover the body.

“Upon receiving the tragic news, detectives from the Ojodu-Abiodun division visited the scene and coordinated with local divers and the Olofin Council to search for the body,” Odutola said.

“Efforts to locate the body are ongoing. We are also working to uncover the details leading to this unfortunate incident,” the police spokesperson stated.
