Troops in Kaduna arrest 47 suspected rail track vandals (Pictures)

Troops of One Division of the Nigerian Army in Kaduna State have arrested 47 individuals suspected of vandalizing rail tracks along the Kakau Daji-Anguwan Ayaba area in Chikun Local Government Area. The suspects were apprehended during a routine patrol on June 26, 2024.

According to Lieutenant Musa Yahaya, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, the suspects had loaded two trucks with the vandalized rail tracks before their arrest. They claimed to be employed by a man identified as Alhaji Babawo, who remains at large.

During the profiling of the suspects at the 312 Artillery Regiment in Kaduna, Acting Commander of the 1 Division Provost Group, Lieutenant Colonel I.Y. Rena, stated that the suspects were individually interviewed to determine their level of involvement. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the gang leader.

Lt. Col. Rena revealed that additional vandalized rail tracks were discovered concealed in a nearby bush, awaiting evacuation by the criminal syndicate.

“The suspects were handed over to the Nigeria Railway Corporation authorities, represented by Divisional Crime Officer ASP Inuwa Dahiru.”

During the handover, ASP Dahiru commended the Nigerian Army for their proactive efforts and collaboration with other security agencies to address security challenges in the state.

“He assured that the 47 suspects would be thoroughly investigated and charged to court to deter others from similar activities.”

The arrest and subsequent handing over of the suspects highlight the ongoing efforts to protect vital infrastructure and ensure the safety of rail operations in the region.
