VP Shettima, Ganduje lose mothers-in-law 

Maryam Abubakar-Albishir, the mother-in-law of Vice-President Kashim Shettima and Hajiya Asiya Muhammad Gauyama, mother-in-law of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, have passed away.

Stanley Nkwocha, spokesman to Vice President Shettima, announced in a statement on Monday that Maryam Abubakar-Albishir died at the age of 69 in Kano on Sunday evening.

Nkwocha stated that the deceased, who was the mother of the vice-president’s wife, Nana Shettima, died after a long illness and would be buried on Monday afternoon in Kano, in line with Islamic customs.

He described the late Maryam as a role model, benevolent mother in her community, and a devout follower of Islam.

Nkwocha emphasised, “She was admired for her intelligence, kindness, and commitment to charitable work.

Many remember her as a source of advice and assistance, both within her family and in the broader community in Kano.

“The country offers its condolences to Vice-President Shettima, Mrs Nana Shettima, and their family during this challenging period, while celebrating the life and impact of the late Hajiya Maryam Albishir,” the statement said.

Similarly, a statement issued by Edwin Olofu, the Chief Press Secretary to Ganduje, said the mother of Professor Hafsatu Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the wife of the National Chairman, passed away in the early hours of Monday.

The statement said funeral service for Hajiya Asiya Muhammad Gauyama will take place on Monday at 2PM at the home of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on Miyangu Road in Kano State.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Hajiya Asiya Muhammad Gauyama, the beloved mother of Professor Hafsatu Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the wife of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

“Hajiya Asiya Muhammad Gauyama was a highly respected figure, known for her dedication to her family, community, and faith. Her loss is deeply felt by not only her family but also by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

“The funeral service for Hajiya Asiya Muhammad Gauyama will be held today at 2PM at the residence of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje CON in Kano State.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Professor Hafsatu Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and her family during this difficult time. May they find peace and solace as they mourn the passing of their beloved matriarch, Hajiya Asiya Muhammad Gauyama,” the statement said.
