Man in Lagos arraigned for sexual assault of 14 year-old girl
A Family Court in Ikeja, Lagos State, has ordered the remand of a 24-Year-old man, Olamide Oyeola, for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. S. Kubeinje, did not take the plea of Oyeola due to a lack of jurisdiction and adjourned the matter for legal advice from the Office of the Lagos Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The prosecution counsel, Insp. John Iberedem, told the court that Oyeola defiled the minor on June 14 at about 9:00 p.m. at Akinola Adedeji Street, Isuti, Igando, Lagos. He also alleged that Oyeola subjected the teenager to emotional injury and sex abuse, infringing on her right to dignity.

The offense contravenes Sections 137 and 263 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, and Section C.H.C 710(1) of the Child Rights Act Laws of Lagos State, 2015. The sections stipulate life imprisonment for defilement and three years imprisonment for sexual touching without consent.
The case was adjourned until July 23 for DPP’s advice.
