The Kano business community has set up emergency squads to secure markets and business areas in anticipation of the nationwide protests scheduled for August. As a key commercial hub in Sub-Saharan Africa, Kano is home to eight major markets and numerous shopping malls in a city with approximately 20 million residents.

Alhaji Sabi’u Bako, the leader of the Kano Business community, addressed an emergency meeting with market and supermarket representatives, stressing the importance of preemptive measures to prevent looting.

At the meeting, Alhaji Bature Abdul Aziz, Chairman of the National Harmonise Traders Union, inaugurated a 20-member committee tasked with coordinating the self-help group’s operations.

Alhaji Balarabe Tatari, Chairman of the Kantin Kwari Market Traders Association, called on the youth to avoid actions that could disrupt the state’s peace. He emphasized that despite expectations of a peaceful protest, it is crucial to safeguard Kano from potential disruptions and property damage.
