NDLEA seizes drugs hidden in candles, clothing in Lagos bust

Operatives from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have made significant drug seizures in Lagos. The drugs, including cocaine and Loud—a synthetic cannabis strain—were ingeniously concealed within incense candles, game packs, dry hibiscus leaves, and women’s clothing.

On July 18, 2024, a businessman named Abdulwahab Owolabi Alebiosu, was arrested at his Lekki residence. The seizure included 40 parcels of Loud, totaling 20.30 kilograms, hidden in game packs from Canada. Additional drug paraphernalia and a Mikano black truck were recovered during the raid.

On July 19, another operation intercepted two bags destined for Pakistan at the NAHCO export shed of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA). These bags contained dried hibiscus and bitter leaves used to conceal four parcels of cocaine and 14 parcels of Loud, weighing 1.360 kg. Businesswoman Eze Queen Ogechi, who claimed the shipment was on her brother’s behalf, was arrested.

In a separate incident on July 18, NDLEA operatives intercepted a Beninese passenger at MMIA’s Terminal II. Eight parcels of Loud, weighing 2.10 kg, were hidden in women’s native dresses intended for Dubai. The suspect, Orobi Adoubi Amen, admitted he was paid N600,000 for this delivery.

NDLEA Chairman Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), praised the officers for their vigilance and success in combating drug trafficking.
