NNPCL confirms fuel scarcity in Lagos, FCT, vows quick resolution

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has acknowledged ongoing fuel supply and distribution issues affecting parts of Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The company has committed to addressing these challenges and restoring normalcy as soon as possible.

In a statement released on Saturday, Olufemi Soneye, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPCL, explained that the current fuel shortages are due to disruptions in the discharge operations of several vessels.

“The NNPC Ltd. wishes to state that the tightness in fuel supply and distribution witnessed in some parts of Lagos and the FCT is as a result of a hitch in the discharge operations of a couple of vessels,” Soneye said.

The company assured the public that it is working diligently with all relevant stakeholders to resolve the situation.

“The Company further states that it is working round the clock with all stakeholders to resolve the situation and restore normalcy in the operations,” the statement continued.

The scarcity has led to long queues at petrol stations across Lagos and Abuja, with fuel prices surging to nearly N1,000 per litre in some areas.

This spike in price comes in the wake of President Bola Tinubu’s decision last year to end fuel subsidies.

The removal of the subsidy caused the price of fuel to more than triple, as part of the Federal Government’s strategy to conserve foreign reserves and redirect funds to infrastructure and other critical projects.
