Guidelines to easily unblock sim cards – Telecom operators

Nigerian telecommunications companies have released step-by-step guidelines to assist subscribers in unblocking their SIM cards.

Recall that the phone service providers recently disconnected several lines over the ongoing National Identification Number (NIN)-SIM harmonisation exercise.

The initiative, which aims to enhance the integrity of the national SIM registration database, has left many users facing temporary service disruptions, causing outrage among customers.

To restore connectivity, telecom companies have outlined the following procedures for customers to follow.

Airtel subscribers can dial *121# and enter their eleven-digit NIN to receive a confirmation message indicating their SIM card has been successfully unbarred.

9mobile (EMTS) users can dial _200_8# to restore their services.

Glo subscribers can dial 109 followed by their NIN number (e.g., _109_12345678901#) and follow the prompts to submit their NIN.

MTN users can visit nin.mtn.ng to check their NIN status. If not linked, they can proceed to link it by providing an OTP and NIN. Once linked, their line will be automatically unbarred.

Smile subscribers can send their NIN to customercare@smile.com.ng or call 07020444444. After providing consent and verifying their NIN, their line will be unbarred.

Spectranet subscribers can call 8002345678 or email care@spectranet.com.ng to submit their NIN. KYC verification at a Spectranet store is required. They can also submit their NIN online but must complete KYC at a Spectranet store.

Ntel subscribers can visit any Ntel store with their NIN. Their fingerprint will be used to verify their existing KYC profile. Upon verification and consent, their line will be updated and unbarred.
