Abuja Court to hear appeals on Kano emirship tussle Wednesday
The Abuja division of the Court of Appeal will hear four pending appeals emanating from decisions of the Federal High Court, Kano and Kano State High Court on the ongoing state emirate tussle on Wednesday.
The President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, raised a panel of three justices to hear and determine the pending appeals filed by the Kano State Government and the attorney general, Kano State House of Assembly and the Speaker as well as an interlocutory appeal filed by Emir Aminu Ado Bayero.
The appellants are challenging the decision of Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman, who set aside steps taken in pursuance of the Kano Emirates Council Law (repeal) 2024 and order parties to maintain “status quo ante” pending hearing and determination of a suit filed by Aminu Babba Danagundi Sarkin Dawaki, the Babba.
It could be recalled that the State assembly had on May 23 passed the bill which was assented to law by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to effectively depose the five emirs of Kano, Bichi, Rano, Karaye and Gaya Emirates.

The governor then announced reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as Emir of Kano.
Following a restraining order granted by the Federal High Court, Emir Ado Bayero returned to Kano and occupied Nasarawa mini palace where he has been holding court, prompting the state government to order for his eviction.
Reinstated Emir Sanusi moved in to the main palace on Saturday, May 25 and has been holding court, receiving homage from district and village heads.
The appellants on June 14 filed their processes seeking an order allowing the appeal and dismissing the suit no FHC/KN/CS/182/2024 for want of jurisdiction.
Bayero filed an interlocutory appeal against the decision of Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu of Kano High Court which ordered his eviction from Nasarawa mini palace and directed him to stop parading himself as an emir.

The judge, in a verdict on Monday, upheld the dethronement of Bayero and four other deposed emirs.
