Anthony Esan faces attempted murder charge for stabbing UK army officer

A 24-year-old Nigerian man, Anthony Esan, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon after stabbing a UK army officer near a barracks in Gillingham, Kent.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at around 5:55 pm in Sally Port Gardens, near Brompton Barracks, headquarters of the 1 Royal School of Military Engineering Regiment.

Lieutenant Colonel Mark Teeton, a man in his 40s, was airlifted to hospital and is in a serious but stable condition.

Esan was arrested on Mooring Road in Rochester at around 6:30 pm and was pictured arriving at Medway Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

According to Kent Police, a man was reported to have left the scene on a motorcycle after the stabbing.

Esan has been charged and is currently in custody. The motive behind the attack is not yet clear.

This incident has raised concerns about public safety and the need for increased security measures in the area.
