Armed robbers in Kogi shoot road safety officer during robbery attack
Armed robbers on Friday attacked a road safety officer, identified as Abu, in Lokoja, Kogi State. Abu was returning home from a bank when he was intercepted and robbed by armed men at Zango.
The robbers, who were in a Toyota Camry Ash colour car, trailed Abu from the bank and blocked him in front of Lokongoma market.
They shot him multiple times in his legs and shoulder while trying to steal his bag containing a large sum of money . The exact amount stolen remains unconfirmed.
An eyewitness reported that the assailants dragged the bag from Abu before fleeing the scene.
The state police command confirmed the incident and mentioned that N139,000 was recovered at the scene. Abu was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.

SP William Aya, the police public relations officer, said, “At exactly 1:30 pm, officers received a distress call and rushed to the scene at Lokongoma, Phase One in Lokoja and met Abu, a road safety officer, in a pool of blood having been shot in both legs and shoulder.”
The police commissioner, Bertrand Onuoha, has deployed officers to secure the area and pursue the armed robbers. The police are working to ensure the safety of residents and bring the perpetrators to justice.
