Family Feud Turns Deadly: Police sergeant in Borno kills retired officer father
In a tragic incident that has left the community of Maiduguri, Borno State in shock, a minor family dispute spiraled into violence this evening. At approximately 4:20 PM, Sergeant Sunday Wazani, serving in the Borno State Police Command, allegedly shot and killed his father, retired Assistant Superintendent of Police Wazani Ntasiri, in Anguwa Maduganari, Bye-Pass Maisandari Ward.
Eyewitness Mathew James recounted the harrowing scene: “We heard a gunshot that scared everyone. When we reached the scene, we saw the father’s corpse, and youths began to beat the son.”
A source informed Neptune Prime that “Sergeant Sunday had allegedly compiled a list of five individuals, including his father, whom he intended to kill before this incident occurred”. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, but the feud between father and son, which initially seemed minor, quickly escalated into a deadly altercation.

Police arrived promptly at the scene, intervening before the enraged residents could harm Sergeant Sunday . He has since been taken into custody, and authorities have launched a thorough investigation to determine the sequence of events that led to this tragic outcome.
The local community is in mourning, struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss of retired ASP Wazani Ntasiri, a well-respected and retired member of the police force. “It’s a great loss for us. He was a good man, respected by many,” said a neighbour who wished to remain anonymous.
Efforts to reach the police Public Relations Officer for further comments were unsuccessful as their number was not reachable at the time.
As the investigation continues, the community remains in shock, grappling with the violent disruption of what was supposed to be a peaceful day.
