From Bride to Servant: The tragic journey of Amina and the abuse of power in the Emirate (ii)
The epic true life story…. …..Continuation…
The young secondary school going chap went back home in tears. The family had to come together, gather some cash and take their daughter to hospital, Amina and the child survived by the whispers. Indeed, because of the prolonged labour, Amina’s child came unhealthy.
After Amina was discharged from hospital three days later, and Audu has neither gone to the hospital nor asked about her health; he also did send a single dime to take care of the hospital bills. The family decided to ask Amina’s secondary school going brother to go and inform Audu of Amina’s childbirth to which he declined.
One way or the other, the family found a way of informing Audu of the condition. Seven days after Amina’s childbirth, Audu sent some children clothing, a slaughtered ram and informed Amina’s family that he has named the boy Nura (real name).
Nura was seriously ill. The young Amina and her mother were selling all they had to take Nura to different hospitals, traditional healers and even exorcists. Yet, Nura’s health continue to deteriorate by the day. Amina’s marriage and her childbirth pauperised her family the more. Wallahi, for once, Audu has never cared to go and see the conditions of his young wife and his son. After two years of Nura’s birth and suffering, things haven’t changed a little. It was suffering all day long.
By the third year of Nura’s birth, Amina’s elder brother was already in the university. One day during one of the university breaks, Amina’s elder brother was in front of the family house when an unknown man greeted him and ask if that’s the home of Amina, the wife of Audu, the sarkin gida of that title holder. On answering in the affirmative, the man told Amina’s elder brother that he’s a messenger from one of the Shari’a courts and that he was there to submit Amina’s divorce papers from the court.

Yes, after three years of suffering by Amina, her unhealthy child and her family, Audu, without any sign of help and or remorse, has quietly went to court and divorce Amina. That’s it. At no cost, he has jeopardized the life of young Amina. A year after, Nura died of his illness and his father refused to attend the burial.
Yet, that’s not where the real life story ends.
After two years of Nura’s death, Amina found another man and she got married again.
Also, by then that secondary school going Amina’s elder brother has finished his university and was undergoing the compulsory NYSC scheme. One day, he was home and was confronted with a dramatic twist that could only be depicted in Kannywood scripts. His friends told him that Amina’s former husband was seen coming to see the younger sister (same mother and father) of Amina, another young below 17 year old girl.
It was really difficult to swallow.
He asked the mother of the true conditions of things. She wasn’t coming straight with answers (note, she’s his step mom). So, he devised another means of knowing the truth. Some of his friends approached Audu’s friends tactfully. It became clear that he was feasting on the poverty of Amina’s family to also try to marry her younger sister.
Unbeknownst to Audu, the elder brother of Amina was back home from his NYSC break. Audu walked majestically into the family home’s zaure and sent some children to call Amina’s younger sister, a zuwan Audu ya zo zance.
That was when Hell was let loose on Audu. Amina’s elder brother pounced on Audu. Audu was severely dealt with physically that it took the intervention of passersby who heard the cries of Audu to rush into the zaure and save him, but before he was saved, Audu sustained many bruises and turn clothes.
After a day, Audu sent a threatening letter to Amina’s elder brother threatening to use the courts and deal with him. Amina’s elder brother also sent Audu a letter threatening to go the media and scandalise both him and his oga, the traditional title holder with all the facts, including all the hospital bills incurred by the family.
Since then, Audu has kept his distance.
All that you read above was factually true.
Things do happen and are still happening.
Some things that happen are so bizarre that one can swear they’re nothing but fictitious imagination.
The end!
