Japan stuns Brazil with a last-minute triumph

In a thrilling Group C match of the women’s tournament at Paris 2024, Japan delivered a sensational late show to defeat Brazil.

The Nadeshiko scored twice in the dying moments to secure a famous victory.

Japan had a chance to take the lead late in the first half through a penalty, but Mina Tanaka’s effort was saved by Brazilian goalkeeper Lorena.

Brazil capitalised early in the second half when Ludmila connected with fellow substitute Jhennifer, who confidently slotted the ball home.

It seemed Brazil had secured the win until stoppage time, when Japan was awarded another penalty. This time, Saki Kumagai calmly side-footed the ball past Lorena.

Before the spectators could even catch their breath, Momoko Tanikawa took advantage of a defensive error to loft a stunning 25-yard shot into Brazil’s net, sealing Japan’s remarkable comeback.
