NDLEA arrests couple, recovers N2.1b drug in raid on Lagos cocaine syndicate
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has conducted a raid on a high-profile cocaine syndicate in Lagos, recovering large consignments of the drug intended for export and local distribution.
The syndicate, led by Agbakoba John Mmadu and Agbakoba Ijeoma Chinwe, along with their associate Okoye Ifeoma Maryjane, was targeted after months of intelligence gathering and surveillance.
Mmadu, 54, was arrested at Ago Palace Way, Okota, while Chinwe, 39, and Maryjane, 31, were apprehended at Lilly Estate, Amuwo Odofin.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi reported that 7.652 kilograms of cocaine were seized from Mmadu and an additional 2.42 kilograms from Chinwe and Maryjane, totaling 10.1 kilograms valued at over N2.1 billion.
Further operations in Benue state led to the interception of 350 grams of cocaine concealed in an MP3 speaker and the arrest of Odeh Anthony, 25. In Adamawa state, a Chadian national, Yves Ahmat Gali, was found with 5.2 kilograms of cannabis in a loudspeaker.

Other notable arrests include a youth corps member, Yusuf Abdulrahman, with 1.25 kilograms of cannabis in Kano, and Ba’ale Ige Babatunde in Osun state with 5 kilograms of fresh cannabis plants. Additionally, Monday Ali and Jimoh Alewi were arrested in Ondo state with 42,500 kilograms of cannabis.
In Abuja, Sanusi Mamman and Usaini Ibrahim were arrested with a large quantity of opioids. The NDLEA continues its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization activities across the country.
NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa commended the officers involved in these operations and urged them to maintain their efforts.
