Our abductors use dogs to trace us after we escaped – rescued kidnapped victims
Six victims, including a 74-year-old woman, Madam Alicia Afolayan, and her driver, Kabiru Yakubu, were abducted in a harrowing incident near Akunu, Akoko area of Ondo state while traveling towards Ayere in Kogi State.
They shared their terrifying experience after being rescued by a joint operation of the Nigerian Army and the state security outfit, Amotekun.
Madam Afolayan recounted the sudden attack:
“We were eight in the vehicle including the driver when they attacked us. It was so sudden, all the passengers in the vehicle ran into the forest. Everyone scampered for safety.”
The abduction took place around 7 pm, and the victims managed to evade capture temporarily by hiding in the forest.
However, the kidnappers used white dogs to track them down, leading to the capture of several passengers.
In an interview following their rescue at about 10 pm, Madam Afolayan and Kabiru Yakubu described the intense moments of being hunted by dogs:
“The kidnappers immediately brought white dogs to trace us in the forest and some of the passengers were picked up where they were hiding.”

The joint security operation swiftly intervened, combing the forest and successfully locating the abducted victims.
Local community efforts, including the involvement of hunters, aided in the search and rescue mission.
Community leader Alhaji Abass Olorunosebi reassured the public about ongoing efforts to locate the remaining two victims:
“We are optimistic that the two victims still missing will be rescued unharmed.”
The rescued victims have since been reunited with their families, while the search continues for the remaining individuals still unaccounted for.
