Police in Kwara nab suspected ritualist over attempted murder

Police authorities in Kwara State have arrested a suspected ritualist over the attempted murder of a 10-year-old boy.

The spokesman of the Kwara State Police Command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the arrest followed a distress call about the incident, which occurred in the Ahab, Oke-Foma area of Ilorin, the state capital.

“It was reported that a 10-year-old boy, Akeem Nurudeen, resident of Abab area Abayawo, Ilorin, was hawking pepper when he was lured into a room by a suspect identified as Isiaka Adeniyi, aged 46, from Ifedapo Community, Oke-Foma area, Ilorin,” the police said in a statement.

“The suspect allegedly lured the victim under the pretext of purchasing pepper but instead covered the victim’s face with a cloth and attempted to slaughter him with a knife.”

The vigilant nature of the community members ensured that the suspect “was apprehended and brought to the station. A preliminary investigation is currently underway, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough and discreet investigation.”

The police commended the community for their proactiveness in the apprehension of the suspect.
