Re: Ahmad Babba Kaita: Former senator with a difference, by Prof M.K. Othman
Deep Thought with Othman
My article on the above subject attracted many reactions, most notably the commendations of former Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita. Very few of the readers’ comments accused me of playing partisan politics and promoting the Senator above other politicians in Katsina state. The accusers failed to realize that commending well-deserved personalities, irrespective of who they are, has been part of my writing ethics. For example, I wrote on Engr David Umahi, Hajia Dr. Salamatu Garba, Professor Zulum, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, and several others for their excellent performances in touching and positively changing the lives of millions of people. Senator Babba Kaita is in the category of these personalities, who, after his controversial defeat in the 2023 election, continued with his philanthropic and economic empowerment of people beyond his constituency. The purpose of extolling the virtues of such personalities is to make them models for others to emulate while acknowledging their contributions to societal development and encouraging them to do more. So, how can I be playing partisan politics? I do not see Senator Babba Kaita as a PDP man or APC man but as a refined politician who uses politics as a tool to render selfless service to his people. How I wish all our politicians were like him. We would not have been where we are today – massive corruption, fantabulous aggrandizement, perpetual poverty, relentless security threats, and other unpalatable situations. After all, what is the difference between PDP and APC, except for their names and the people occupying their structures/offices? PDP differs from APC, akin to the difference between twelve and half of a dozen – no difference in ideology, principle, and focus.
I have selected a few of the comments to share with you, my esteemed readers, so that you may better understand Senator Babba Kaita’s benevolent gesture, which was covered with milk of human kindness, lest we have another Babba Kaita in the making in Katsina or elsewhere. Electorates must open their eyes and be attentive when discharging their civic responsibilities of voting for their preferred candidates who will meet their expectations and improve their livelihoods.

Thank you, Prof. Othman, for bringing out unprecedented feats recorded by Senator Babba Kaita. Thank you, Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita, for your selfless service to the people of Katsina State and Nigeria. We truly appreciate your tireless efforts to improve the lives of your constituents. By the grace of Almighty Allah, we look forward to your return as Senator or even a higher political position of authority.

Dear Sir,
In the Daura senatorial Zone, Daura Emirates has only five local government areas: Daura, Mai Adua, Zango, Baure, and Sandamu, while Katsina Emirates has seven: Bindawa, Mani, Mashi, Dutsi, Kankia, Kusada, and Ingawa—not six LGAs for each emirate, as stated in your article. May Almighty Allah increase your knowledge and reward you abundantly for your educative write-ups. Amen.

Our lecturer and mentor, Prof. Mohammed Khalid Othman’s excellent article honors Sen. Ahmad Babba Kaita’s legacy. Let’s celebrate a leader known for integrity and selfless service. We need more like Babba Kaita to build a better Nigeria.
From important legislative work to impactful projects, Sen. Ahmad Babba Kaita has made a lasting impact on the Daura Zone. His unwavering commitment to human capital development and economic empowerment has changed many lives, and even after his tenure, his generosity continues to inspire.

This is indeed an exciting article showcasing Kastina State politics. It is pretty unfortunate that good works are not valued and appreciated in our dear country compared to the way white men value and appreciate every good work done by someone in their country. It is high time we change our orientation and attitude towards promoting backwardness in our communities and societies and allow progress to be our closest friend in moving Nigeria forward. The likes of Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita in Nigerian politics are rare. He is like another Governor Zulum who has come to serve his people wholeheartedly. When we test people with such exceeding performance in the office, they should be given a chance to serve further for better performance. The excellent work Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita has done for his people will speak for him in future elections in his state. He should not be discouraged but instead should do what will keep the state growing by encouraging all Senators to do good in office by discharging their duties to the people of the community and society that voted them to power.
Engr Dr. O. A. Oyelade
This is very true, sir. You even forget the number of deserving people he secured appointments at the Federal Government level, of which I am one among hundreds of us.
May Almighty Allah continue to be your guide, sir.

The issues are profound, and we need everyone to read and remember them for the next election. We need Ahmad Babba Kaita and his likes as our political leaders to take Nigeria out of the woods.
